project 9 - coil building

Description:

I made three different depictions of coil building. For my first one I wanted to be a wave of spirals, but I couldn't get my spirals small enough. For that, I made a slab and used the mini extruder to make spirals. For the second one, I made a little bowl of coils. I used the big extruder for the base and had thick coils around a circular slab. From there I built up with spirals to make the edges of the bowl. For the third, my favorite, I created an ocean scene with coils ontop of a slab

I had a few challenges with this assignment. My first challenge was with my wave spirals. It was partially the clay not being damp enough and cracking, but also the mini extruder wasn´t mini enough. For my second try my biggest challenge were the heavy spirals staying upright.

project 10- monster

Description:

Outcome:

This was a very fun assignment and I enjoyed making someone else's imagination come to life. For this assignment, I tried initially making a pinch pot and carving out the feet from the top and using the bottom as the head. This one was fine, but felt messy and was dried out by the time I came back from being sick. Upon my return, I retried with the same process and had a better execution. I scored and slipped my handbuild wings and antennas and created a little face. It will be glazed like the photo when we come back from break and will be on here afterwards.

Reflection:

I loved this assignment, and if mine is chosen I would be very excited to give my project to a little one! My proudest moment of this project was my perseverance through my ultimate frustration. I decided to scrap some really hard work just because it wasn't the way I wanted it, and retried when another attempt dried out. It was worth it though and now I have something I am proud of and will enjoy even more when glazed. Even if it is not selected I would love to have itaround my house.
